Some general tips when visiting Hawaii

No matter how tempting, do not stand under a waterfall. Not only does the water comes down, so does whatever is in the water such as rocks and branches. Even a small rock can cause serious injury if it falls several hundred feet in a waterfall!

Be careful driving! With waterfalls and scenic views around every corner, it's easy to take your eyes off the road. If you see something you really want to look at, pull over and take your time to enjoy the view.

The two pictures below are examples of the many offerings and altars to Hawaiian deities. To touch them is kapu (taboo).

If you are lucky enough to see a Nene (Hawaii's State Bird) or a Hawaiian Green Turtle, keep your distance. Both the Nene Birds and the Green Turtles are endangered species and are protected by federal and state laws. Fines are severe for disturbing them.

Take lots of pictures. You will see many things in Hawaii that can not be seen anywhere else in the world. There is so much to do on the Big Island of Hawaii. Come talk to us about day trips and hikes in the volcano area, trips to the astronomy center to watch stars, snorkeling in lava lagoons, swimming in lava thermal pools, or just visit our beautiful waterfalls! We can point you in the right direction!
